It was indeed my pleasure to be asked to judge the Weimaraner Association 
Of Canada's Puppy and Veteran Sweepstakes.

My overall impression of the classes, I must admit, is one of surprise.
For a larger sporting dog I was expecting to have puppies who were still
learning how to use the angles and muscles that Mother Nature and selected
breeding had given them to function in the field. I figured I would have to
make compromises and use guess work on how they would developed as adults
and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that was not the case. These
puppies had it all figured out and had some of the cleanest and soundest
movement for their age in any of the breeds I have had the opportunity to
judge. The easy going side-gate and balanced reach and drive was what
usually separated the class placements.
I was also pleased with overall temperaments as well. I have seen my share
of anxious weims and that too was not the case this time. Relaxed and easy
going was the norm.
I did see several specimens who were a bit too short in back and did not
give the silhouette of a weim. This was clear to see when they moved and
they would not cover the necessary ground for a good days work.

The veterans were exceptional and I was very pleased to see the Veteran
Bitch I selected for Best Veteran in Sweeps go onto Best In Specialty. She
had a long morning and still kept going right through the judging. She
excelled in the beautiful chiseling of the head and the refinement of body
but she was no doubt a sporting dog who could get the job done.
