Coleen writes: ....Everyone arrived at my house sometime on Saturday afternoon. I wasn't home, since I had to be at the show all day, but Shelly knew where the key was from many "overnights" at my place. My little house was going to be full for the weekend with me, Shelly, Barb, Andrea, and a another (non dog show) friend staying overnight. That meant that there were going to be 2 adult male Weims, 1 adult male GSP, 1 adult female Weim, 2 senior puppy female Weims, and 2 baby Weim girls staying in a little house in the middle of the city.

Barb and Shelly left their baby puppies in the great dane crates that my dogs stay in, and the girls thought they'd "died and gone to heaven in these huge crates". Basil's owners had brought him to the show... (Basil is from Regina), and they stayed to watch the fun.

Barb got right into the thick of things by taking Basil in for one of the classes. I haven't seen Barb in action for many years, and it was nice to see her "trademark style" as she ran around the ring.... Barb is a natural handler and always looks elegant at the end of a Weim lead. The classes went off without a hitch, right down to having the originally scheduled judge, Jan Buchanan doing the judging. This might seem like a rather silly comment, but Jan was the only judge to make it to the show following the events of September 11th... our show started on the 14th!! The other 3 judges were replaced... sometimes with only hours to spare. Shelly made many trips around the show ring and people wondered if she got tired or not. (These, of course, are not Weim people, but other breed people.)
The prizes that were donated were the talk of the show, with a 2 foot stuffed Weim toy being the hit of the day. The other prizes were: three "camping chairs in bags, various stuffed animals and toys, and small bags of dog food for the major winners. There were enough prizes for everyone to take something home (either a stuffed bunny or a stuffed soccer ball), whether they were an official winner or not. The judge was given a lovely "pewter" set of salt and pepper shakers... I wanted to give her something gray, but not breed specific and I also had to consider that it had to fly home with her, so I passed on making her some stained glass items.

Shelly was not going to be allowed to have a sweep of the Weim classes and a group first all in the same day without having to "spread the wealth around"... we decided that she should spring for dinner and she was a very good sport about it all. We ended up having Chinese food and lots of drinks afterwards. Shelly went on to pick up a puppy group as well later in the weekend, so all in all it was a pretty good weekend for her.

One thing about dog show people is, that it doesn't matter how many people there are, or how many dogs they might have, there's always room for one more as long as you're not too picky. I hope that other clubs hold some breed boosters in the near future, since it makes going to the shows a little more fun.
